Josh Bowman about Revenge

British actor Josh Bowman stars in the  new tv show Revenge as the sexy stud and “tragically privileged” Daniel Grayson.

Don't be deceived by the first few minutes of the Revenge pilot! Though it appears Daniel Grayson's journey has a very clear cut destination right from the jump, actor Josh Bowman confided  that things are not quite what they appear on the surface. For the show, and for the character himself. It's a good point to make, considering when the audience meets him, we see him through Emily Thorn (Emily Van Camp)'s eyes-- a woman who has preconceived notions about the wealthy elite of the Hamptons. But as she gets to know the true person under the fancy clothes and behind the famous last name, we all learn the truth.
For Bowman, that truth is "trapped in this kind of bird cage where he wants to break free, and he can kind of see out, but he's kind of angered by how he's kept in."
Daniel may be dark and brooding and just a little bit misunderstood. In other words, he may turn out to be the true underdog-- the guy who seems to have it all on the outside and has been dubbed "the golden boy," but who is struggling harder than anyone else.
"He doesn't care about the money; he doesn't care about the status or anything in the society," Bowman teased, noting that Daniel doesn't want to be in the socialite world, but he is sort of forced in by his mother. "So when he meets Emily, he kind of connects with her on a deeper level."
But Daniel is still very much a part of Emily's plan-- a plan that sees her using him as a prop or a pawn to get to some others, namely his mother Victoria (Madeleine Stowe). Going in to their relationship, she never thought about any real feelings he might develop for her, but more importanly, she never thought about any real feeling she might develop for him. Complications will certainly arise when she finds herself charmed by Daniel (even though Bowman doesn't keep his real accent in the project, it's hard not to be charmed by him!) but still pulled from another angle by a long lost childhood friend (Nick Wechsler's Jack Porter) who may have been who she was meant to be with.
"It does become some form of a love triangle, and it's going to be very interesting to watch. Daniel is this person who catches Emily off her guard because he's not the person she thought he was off the surface...It's this kind of classic return to these kind of soap operas where it's much more than a guilty pleasure," Bowman promised.
