Olivia Palermo, is a New York socialite who has recently come to fame as Elle girl in MTV’s The City. She is always pictured looking super polished and has that Upper East Side NYC style that many of us can only wish to achieve. She interned at Quest, alongside working at DVF in the press department and then moved onto Elle Magazine Photographer Patrick McMullan spotted her at an auction, then took pictures of her about town. Palermo has taken part in many charity events in New York. She denied rumors in 2008 that she would be a part of The City, a spin-off the MTV’s cultural phenomenon “The Hills” but was later confirmed as a cast member. She agreed to star in the series to familiarize herself with acting. She was signed to Wilhelmina Models in 2009 and also launched a jewelry line with Roberta Freymann in 2010. In February 2010 Olivia became a spokesmodel for Matches Fashion’s Freda label ahead of London Fashion Week.
Olivia has the ability to mix and match designer fashion with high street and vintage. She was pictured on the front row of Topshop Unique last season and is snapped out and about frequently wearing the high street brand. The model/fashion socialite is known her esquisit taste in accessories and it was this sense of style that got her the job as Accessories Editor at Elle Magazine. She is frequently snapped in ornate statement necklaces teamed with skinny jeans, shorts or Breton tops. Olivia has a classic style that will never date. In a recent magazine article for ASOS, the fashion conscious dresser says: “Both my parents keep telling me that London is calling,’ she says. ‘In five years time I’d like to be living in London with Johannes [my boyfriend]. It really all depends on work.’ ‘I just really, really love clothes,’ she continues. ‘I think it has evolved as I’ve gotten older.’ ‘I understand the industry a little better, and I know what works for me and my personal style. I’ve definitely noticed I’m getting there in the past few years!’
Classic Olivia items are as follows:
Well made designer handbag – make an investment and the handbag will last you a life time. Choose a timeless tan or black which will go with everything.
Skinny jeans will work with everything in your wardrobe, from day to night.
A classic white shirt can be teamed with a pencil skirt, city style shorts or tucked into jeans.
Blazers, especially with exagerated shoulder pads, are this seasons staple item. Wear over a tee and jeans with heels or add over a pretty dress for evening to add a masculine element.
Jewellery is what seperates Olivia from most other fashionistas. She has an impressive collection of designer jewellery, mostly passed down from her mother but is clever at mixing this with statement pieces such as oversized necklaces and cocktail rings from British high street brand Topshop.
